For fans of:Rap

Review:Hi Fabiola Quinones from Platform One Entertainment I popped over to Demolition’s purevolume page and had a bit of a listen. I have to say they are not really my thing and I certainly wouldn’t call them harder than nu metal, but for what they are which I would say is a very talent and respectable rap group. The lead singer has a very good style with clear and precise delivery, the beats and other vocals remind me of the old Eminem album F**king Yzarc. All in all if people like rap with hard bass kicking beats I would say take a look. Find them at http://www.purevolume.com/demolition.

Kingpin – Nu Hardcore

Artist Name: Kingin

Album Name:Nu Hardcore

Review Date: 07/08/08

Star Rating:1.5

Should you buy?:No

For fans of:Crappy metal rap

Review:Well this album was a shock I have to admit, with a name like Nu Hardcore I was looking forward to something well hmm hardcore I guess. The first track makes you think ok this could be ok but that is only 1 min 50 long then it is straight into gangaster rap vocals over Wu Tang style beats with the distortion turned up. I have to say the lyrics are shocking too, I’m not in the slightiest bit prudish but some words should be kept out of music really unless there is a real need. It starts with C if anyone is curious. I have only given it as high as 1.5 as some of the back riffs are nice and chuggy and you could nod your head to them if you could get passed the annoying vocals. The stand out track is Jesus Come Up as this is actually metal of some description and seems to almost be a different band.

For fans of:Hmm I do not really know maybe D can add some

Review:Ok first off this is so not my genre but I brought this album 1p and cos the lead singer is the one and only Russell Crowe. I bet you are thinking hey that’s as good a reason as any. Well I have to say the album really ain’t great. The music is Aussie country rock with a trumpet thrown in for good measure, which just ain’t me. Although if you are a country rock lover you might like this album for any metallers or heavy rockers stear well clear.

The Beautiful Mistake – Light a match, for I deserve to burn

Artist Name: The Beautiful Mistake

Album Name:Light a match, for I deserve to burn

Review Date: 07/07/08

Star Rating:4

Should you buy?:Yes

For fans of:Ben Folds Five, 36 Crazyfists, Atreyu

Review:The Beautiful Mistake blend catchy melodies with soaring vocals which overall works very well. There’s certainly nothing groundbreaking here, however the odd 36 Crazyfists style scream thrown in over the top for good measure adds an extra depth to their sound. Almost reminds me of an inverse Atreyu if that makes sense. I would certainly give it a big thumbs up for 1p (I’d probably even spend a £1!!!) Enjoy

November 17 – Defy Everything

Artist Name: November 17

Album Name: Defy Everything

Review Date: 04/07/2008

Star Rating: 3.9

Should you buy?: Maybe

For fans of: The Prodigy, Fear Factory, Meshuggah

Review:This band, like quite a lot of industrial metal, I find to be very much like marmite. You either are going to like it, or think it is just a lot of noise. Personally I’m a big fan of industrial, and try to get hold of it whenever I can. With regards to N17 (November 17), as with Fear Factory, the synching of techno and strong drum beats provided by Jason Kowalski works well, and the vocalist Trevor Askew’s voice is perfectly suited for the genre. If you find yourself listening to Digimortal by Fear Factory and enjoying yourself, this album should do you well. If you don’t like a ‘technoey’ undertone to your metal I would say stay clear, but still in my opinion a quality album.

Injected – Burn It Black

Artist Name: Injected

Album Name:Burn It Black

Review Date:04/07/2008

Star Rating: 4.4

Should you buy?:Yes

For fans of:Nickelback, Silverchair, Creed, Khoma

Review:This album is a solid and easily listened taste of how American alt rock really should be done. Danny Grady on vocals has a unique sound which blends perfectly with the bands style. Production from the whole band is great with every element fitting in well. If you’re a fan of Nickelback in the old days, before rockstar marred their appeal, or if you just want an album you can put on and be entertained and unoffended then this is for you.

Apparatus – Heathen Agenda

Star Rating: 4.2

For fans of: Dimmu Borgir, Old Man’s Child, Emperor, Early Cradle of Filth

Review: This is excellent “early sounding” Black Metal. They very much remind me of an old skool Dimmu Borgir (somewhere around the “Enthrone Darkness Triumphant” era). I can’t quite work out why these guys aren’t a lot bigger on the scene than they are, although it is possibly that the album came out in 2005 yet sounds like early 90s. The drumming is wonderful in parts and everyone compliments each other, whether it be melodic guitars over double bass drumming or haunting black metal vocals over chunky riffs. This album is certainly worth the 1p we paid and I will definitely be adding it to my Playlist. (They only missed out on a 4.5 rating because I think they missed the boat on 1992 :P)

Gizmachi – The Imbuing

Artist Name: Gizmachi

Album Name: The Imbuing

Review Date: 03/07/2008

Star Rating: 4.5

Should you buy?: Yes

For fans of: Slipknot, DownTheSun

Review: This album is simply stunning, produced by Clown from Slipknot, Gizmachi have come up with an album full of gut wrenching screams and pounding riffs. Sean Kane on lead vocals sets the pace with his painful sounding screams whilst Mike Laurino offsets these beautifully with wonderful guitar harmonies. If you like it heavy, fast and dark this album is a must.

For fans of: All That Remains, Drawing Circles, Stampin Ground, Biohazard

Review: The album that started all this, recommended to me by D. This album is a gem from a near unheard of British group. The band is musically very tight playing a mixture of heavy/thrash metal with the vocalist showing a good range. The production could be better but for a first studio album and for 1p this album is a quality purchase.

FR8 – In Cold Blood

Artist Name: FR8

Album Name: In Cold Blood

Review Date: 03/07/2008

Star Rating: 3.5

Should you buy?: Yes

For fans of: Diecast, Fear Factory, Spine

Review: This album suffers only from the strange choice in drumming styles, whether intentional or not. The slightly off beat, almost out of time, style is quite apparent once you first notice it. Apart from this the vocals are strong there are nice chunky riffs and the general feeling coming from the music is energy which would probably make them a brilliant opening act.
